About Rasmussen Import Company

For nearly 50 years, Rasmussen Import Company has been committed to providing the best in quality and service. Scandinavian products have always been synonymous with high design and fine craftsmanship. We keep this foremost in our minds as we develop our collection. We are proud of our Scandinavian heritage and do our utmost to bring you a unique assortment of products from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland.

Early in 1960, Elias Rasmussen (then pastor at Mindekirken Norwegian Lutheran Church) invited his son Roland to join him on a trip back to the family hometown of Bergen, Norway. Pastor Rasmussen had maintained contacts with craftsmen in Norway and had been importing Julenplatter (Christmas plates) as a favor to friends in the congregation. This first trip was Roland's inspiration to start Rasmussen Import Company. Some of these craftsmen have become our lifelong friends and are still supplying Rasmussen Import Company today.

Roland quickly expanded the import company to provide products and represent companies from all of the Scandinavian countries, and all are present in today's collection. Tradition, heritage, and loyalty remain cornerstones of Rasmussen Import Company.

In 1976, Roland's son-in-law Mark Bretheim joined the firm, bringing his background in photography and design to the company. Roland's son Karl became president of the company in 2001. Today, we are committed to expanding the retail presence of the craftspeople through new and progressive outlets. At the same time, we will continue to serve our traditional Scandinavian retailers with the same respect and loyalty that we have mutually enjoyed over the past 47 years.
